It\u2019s fair to say that the tech industry is always changing\u2014the pandemic simply shoved certain trends and activities into the spotlight (looking at you, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sherweb.com\/blog\/partner\/remote-work-en-masse\/\">remote work<\/a>!). End-user <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gartner.com\/en\/newsroom\/press-releases\/2020-11-17-gartner-forecasts-worldwide-public-cloud-end-user-spending-to-grow-18-percent-in-2021\">spending on public cloud services<\/a> is expected to increase by more than 18% in 2021, representing upwards of $300 billion. Cloud is also accounting for a greater portion of global IT spending as a result of the pandemic. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reportlinker.com\/p06028469\/Managed-Services-Market-Growth-Trends-COVID-19-Impact-and-Forecasts.html\">managed services market<\/a>\u2014worth about $152 billion in 2020\u2014is also exploding, with an estimated annual growth rate of over 11% up to 2026.<\/p>\n<p>Providers need to be ready to take on this growth, and should be strategizing ways to do so. According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.comptia.org\/content\/research\/it-industry-trends-analysis\">CompTIA<\/a>, 47% of IT professionals say reaching new customer segments will drive positive growth for their business in 2021, 44% say selling new lines of product will help them grow, and 43% say improving sales and marketing efforts will push them forward. Furthermore, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sherweb.com\/blog\/partner\/sherwebs-value-added-services-operational-effectiveness\/\">optimizing internal costs and operations<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sherweb.com\/blog\/security\/setup-security-remote-work\/\">securing remote workforces<\/a> and ensuring <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sherweb.com\/blog\/security\/5-reasons-need-disaster-recovery-plan-small-business-online-backup\/\">business continuity<\/a> remain high on the list of priorities for both IT providers and their clients.<\/p>\n<p>Acquiring new customers, selling new products and solutions and optimizing marketing are all undoubtedly effective ways to ensure your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sherweb.com\/blog\/security\/5-reasons-need-disaster-recovery-plan-small-business-online-backup\/\">MSP business<\/a> rides the rising wave of cloud profitability. How to complete these objectives, however, is understandably more complicated. <strong>Ongoing education for MSPs is therefore absolutely vital for sustaining growth in the current market.<\/strong><br \/>\n&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Prioritizing skills development and training<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>When it comes to improving technical skills, 67% of IT professionals say building skill in a new area is important, and 22% are focused on increasing their business operations skillsets. At the same time, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.datto.com\/resources\/dattos-global-state-of-the-msp-report-2020\">23% of MSPs<\/a> say sales and marketing keep them up at night. Drilling down on education in these areas is what will separate the boys from men, so to speak, with regards to capitalizing on channel growth.<\/p>\n<p>What kind of training programs represent the best education for MSPs? There\u2019s a lot of information out there on this front, so providers will have to use their discretion as to what specifically works best for them. Data collected by CompTIA suggest that <a href=\"https:\/\/comptiacdn.azureedge.net\/webcontent\/docs\/default-source\/research-reports\/07383-research-booklet-2020-update-single.pdf\">methods for improving IT staff knowledge and performance<\/a> include more e-learning opportunities, aligning training with development goals as well as providing more cross-training between functions, among others. Additionally, more than half of MSPs surveyed report that increasing or improving <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sherweb.com\/blog\/security\/security-awareness-training-is-no-longer-optional\/\">cybersecurity skills<\/a> will be essential to market performance in the coming years.<\/p>\n<p>Companies occupying the IT and MSP channels didn\u2019t exactly need another challenge added to their to-do lists. And yet, focusing on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sherweb.com\/blog\/partner\/sharpen-solution-selling-with-partner-university\/\">ongoing training and education<\/a> is what will make a whole host of other looming business obstacles seem that much more surmountable.
